This is an integral part of the mentality ingrained in us working in the nuclear power industry adhering to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Appendix B
The challenge in living up to that standard for any application – manufacturing, IT, business management, financial management, procurement, etc – is that implementing corrective action presupposes that we know the causes of the problem. In our experience, most problem-solving processes used in many companies rarely reach the depth needed to find the root causes. Often, teams lack the thinking framework to go beyond the intermediate effects (defects) and thus can only treat symptoms.
Our process engineering background coupled with our disciplined approach to problem-solving, enable us to help teams identify the systematic causes of problems. We use the 6M’s of the Six Sigma model to analyze situations.
